Old Poway Park is a 5-acre living history village restored to the early 1900s, opened to the public in 1993 and dedicated on July 4, 1994.
Old Poway Park sits on a property the City of Poway purchased in December 1986. The park recreates life in Poway Valley during the early 1900s when the area was dominated by crop and dairy farming. It houses restored historic buildings and a working 1907 Baldwin Number 3 Steam Locomotive that runs on a narrow-gauge track during special events.
The village was envisioned by retired Army Colonel John S. Porter, who first settled in Poway in 1948 and whose legacy inspired the restoration work that began after his death in 1979. Today, the park operates through the Old Poway Park Action Committee, a coalition of nearly 300 volunteers from 10 organizations who contribute more than 10,000 hours annually to preserve the site and welcome visitors.
